The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls Books 5 & 6 REVIEW

Here’s our review of The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls. It’s full of time-traveling Bible story fun!

My first grader was excited to get her hands on Secret of the Hidden Scrolls: The Shepherd’s Stone (Book 5) and Secret of the Hidden Scrolls: The Lion’s Roar (Book 6) from WorthyKids Books so she could continue the adventures of Peter, Mary, and their trusty dog Hank.

Here's a review of books 5 & 6 from the Secret of the Hidden Scrolls series for kids. It's full of time-traveling Bible story fun.

Our Review of The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls

About The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls

This is a continuation of the series with siblings Peter & Mary and their trusty dog Hank. As the kids travel back in time to experience actual Bible stories, they also learn about the character of God as they solve the secret of the hidden scrolls.

The theological depth of these children’s books is exactly what I want to see in a series like this. What do I mean? Well, instead of making The Shepherd’s Stone (book 5) a moralistic retelling of David killing Goliath, Mike Thomas puts the story in the proper meta narrative of the entire Bible. David is not the hero. God is the hero. David points to the True King that will come and defeat evil on behalf of His people. This is the kind of Biblical theology that I want my kids to read.

My 6-year-old is a pretty strong reader and she was able to read these books on her own. She has previously read books #1-4 in the series, so she was pretty excited to continue on with these familiar characters.

About the author: Mike Thomas

Mike tried to find books for his own son who was 9 years old at the time. He wanted stories that would teach about the Bible in a creative way. Since he couldn’t find what he was looking for, he wrote his own series!

Who are these for?

The recommended reading level is for kids ages 6-8, or about 1st through 3rd grade. But you could always read these stories aloud to younger kids.

Obviously, these books are from a Christian perspective.
