CTC Math Review

After homeschooling for over a decade with five children, I was thrilled to finally try out the Family Membership from CTC Math. I’ve heard so much about this program from other homeschool families, so our expectations were high. And this program did not disappoint!

How Does CTCMath Work?

CTCMath is an online program with every single level of K-12 math instruction that a homeschool family might need. And with the Family Membership, you can have all your children working with this program for one low price.

When you purchase a 12-month subscription, you get access to all the lessons across every grade level! That’s an amazing value, especially for large families.

Every topic from K-6 has a standard and comprehensive test. Your kids can take it, then you can view the complete report to see which topics they need to still work on.

The high school courses include diagnostic tests for gauging the level your child is at, kind of like a placement test. You can also use the diagnostic tests as continual assessments of their progress or as an end-of-year test.

How We Used It

One of my high schoolers was needing to take Geometry this year, and we just were not sure that our normal textbook based curriculum was going to work well.

This particular teen of mine has challenges with dyslexia, which makes the way we were approaching math very hard. It was too hard for him to tackle on his own, and then I would have to work with him for an extended period of time each day.

That gets difficult to do when I have four other kids who also need my help and attention.

Plus, the textbook based approach required him to do a lot of reading to understand his math. So, right from the start, it was setting him up for an uphill battle.

With CTCMath, his visual and auditory learning style is used as he listens to Pat Murray explain one concept at a time.

Since he needs a credit on his transcript for Geometry, he will complete all three parts of this CTCMath curriculum for high school geometry.

The length of the videos is about 4-9 minutes, which is absolutely perfect for making sure kids aren’t getting frustrated with information overload.

And as the parent, I can set the percentage needed to pass each lesson. In the parent view, I can see how many tries he needed to get a successful passing score.

I also have the option to print this detailed report I’ve shown you above. This makes keeping grades for math a cinch since it’s automatically graded for you, plus the reports are easy to understand. Just file them in the portfolio.

Here’s what a typical lesson looks like:

  • short video tutorial
  • complete worksheet
  • immediate feedback – either redo the lesson for mastery or move on

Here are just a few reasons that we really liked CTCMath and plan to continue using it throughout the rest of the year:

  • it’s a full math curriculum
  • short lessons
  • works on one skill at a time
  • printable sheets for working the math out by hand
  • automatic feedback when you input your answers
  • parents can determine the required passing grade for each lesson
  • detailed reports for parents

Recommendations

If your kids are motivated by awards, CTCMath issues Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum certificates for completed work that meets certain levels.

This program is very user-friendly and the parent can see exactly what their child has been working on.

Look at this beautiful checklist below! CTCMath includes these downloadable PDF checklists for each course. My son needs this kind of structured checklist to keep on task and keep track of his own grades.

I can go into the parent view of the site and see detailed reports of all his progress.

Here’s an example of an assignment he did, which shows me which ones were correct and which ones were wrong. I also have the option to print this work, which is great if you need to keep a portfolio.

This online math curriculum is worth every single penny. We intend to keep with it, especially for this son, for the duration of his high school years.

If you have a child struggling with their current math program, or you just want to get the math instruction off your plate as the homeschool mom, then you can rest assured your students will enjoy CTCMath and so will you!

No wonder this program has earned all these awards!

But don’t just take my word for it! Check out what other homeschool families with kids of other ages thought about the program by clicking on the banner below.

And at the very least, take advantage of their free trial offer at CTCMath.
