Delegating to Your Team {Productivity Challenge}

Here’s the truth: you can’t do it all and you shouldn’t do it all. You need to start delegating to your team in order to reach your goals. Even if you’re a homeschool mom, you have a team! It’s the kids. Here’s how to start fostering a team spirit in your home or work.

You Shouldn’t Be Doing Everything

No one – even stay at home moms – should be doing everything to run the house. Or, if you run a business on the side, this can apply to you too.

Whatever stage and season you find yourself in, delegation is key.

But since I talk to homeschool moms, my examples will apply to them. Because sometimes in a work environment, you expect to delegate. But this doesn’t always transfer to a home environment.

Here’s the thing, once your kids are about four years old, they can (and should) start to help out around the house.

Even though we have seven people in our home, I rarely have to empty and fill the dishwasher, vacuum the floor, or do laundry (except for my own). How can this be? Teamwork and delegation!

The new year is a great time to get this new system in place.

What Can You Delegate to Your Team?

First, decide which chores and responsibilities you can take off your plate. It really is training in life skills to be able to hand over these tasks to your kids.

Who wants to marry someone who doesn’t know how to do their own laundry or cook a simple meal? Really – your future children-in-law will thank you.

Now have a family meeting where you discuss the importance of teamwork, life skills, and helping mom have more time to reach her goals – which will in turn help the family reach their goals!

What kinds of things can you outsource and delegate?

Resources for Taking Action

Consider delegating these tasks (and more):

  • I don’t do laundry (and you shouldn’t either)
  • Our Kids Chore System & why we pay them
  • I don’t go grocery shopping (and you shouldn’t either)
  • 10 Reasons Why You Should Use Walmart Online Grocery Pick-Up
  • Easy Homeschool Scheduling with Trello

Remember, delegation might be for the kids and it might be that you can outsource some tasks too! Do you have money in the budget to hire a housecleaner twice a month? If this would take a drudgery-laden task off your list, then do it!

Do you need to hire a babysitter for 3 hours every Saturday morning so you can work on your home business? Then do it! It is money well-spent.
